The ninth generation Impala followed directly on the heels of the eighth, as a modern, fun, stylish, and practical front-wheel drive sedan, with the choice of two slightly larger V6 engines: 3.5-liter, 211-hp or 3.9-liter, 242-hp. The SS's new small block V8 (325-ci) produced 303-hp and a 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds, but the SS would not continue after 2009.
