1958 - 1958 Impalas
The world was introduced to the Impala in 1958, as a high-performance, high-luxury trim option for the Bel Air, replete with bold, extravagant design details emblematic of the era: big fins, quad headlights, six tail lamps (a signature of the model), and flashy chrome trim. 1959 saw a complete redesign of the series, making the 1958 model unique. Several engine options provided power to cruise the American highways with ease and confidence, including GM's proven inline-six, several small-block engines (introduced in 1955), and the 348-ci "W motor"—GM's first GM big-block, and the forerunner to the iconic 409.
