1971 - 1976 Impalas
Heading into the early 1970s, the Impala sold very well, now taking most of its styling cues from luxury-oriented Cadillac. Full-sized Chevrolets reached their most barge-like dimensions in 1971.
The 1973 gas crisis extinguished any remaining interest in the Impala's muscle car heritage, and the entire industry found itself suddenly adjusting to a new consumer market concerned with efficiency and safety above all. Appeal of the full-size Impala dropped considerably as cheaper-to-operate imports made their way into the U.S, and styling changes from 1973 to 1976 were minimal. |
