1965 - 1970 Impalas
Impala sales broke one million for the year in 1965, a record that still stands today. The car was fully redesigned, with a clean, brawny body shape and curved side glass. The success of the top-end Caprice trim package for 1965 lead to its release as a separate line in 1966, and an overall restyle added fresh curves in 1967.
With waning interest from the muscle car set, who now favored smaller cars like the Chevelle SS396 and Plymouth Road Runner, the venerable SS was reabsorbed as a performance trim option for the Impala in 1968, and then retired after 1969 (until 1994). |
