1973 - 1974 GTOs

1973 - 1974 Pontiac GTO
The muscle car party was over by 1972, and the GTO was no longer a distinct brand, but rather an option package for the LeMans. Power from the 400-ci V8 was reduced to 250-hp in 1972 and again to 230-hp in 1973. (The rare 1972 445 HO engine was rated at 300-hp and performed ably with unleaded gas.) The 1973 LeMans body restyle, coupled with chunky, federally mandated chrome bumpers, fared poorly with buyers, and in 1974, the last GTO was nothing more than a glorified Nova—hardly the legend it once was.
