1968 - 1972 GTOs
GM revamped its A-body in 1968, and the GTO got a total, curvy restyle. Optional paint-matched Endura "bumperless" bumpers and hidden headlights completed the sleek, swoopy, fastback look. Chrome Endura bumpers were available with the rare "Endura Delete" option. Engines continued to swell, from 400-ci to 455-ci in 1970; highest performance of all was the mega-muscle Ram Air IV 400, rated at 370- hp. The standard GTO 400-ci V8 remained intact for 1971, but compression was reduced for emissions (now rated at 300-hp).
The 1969-1971 Judge was the ultimate GTO, in both performance and style. Judge convertibles are quite rare (just 17 built in 1971). |
